Airstream® Basecamp® Named 2017 RV of the Year by RV Business

Airstream, the most recognized RV manufacturer in North America, is pleased to announce that its new Basecamp travel trailer was named 2017 RV of the Year by RVBusiness magazine. Executives from five RV manufacturers joined representatives of the magazine, “Rollin’ On TV” (ROTV) and four corporate sponsors on Jan. 9 at the Northern Indiana Event Center in Elkhart, Ind. and unveiled Basecamp as the ultimate winner while filming for ROTV.

To determine the annual winner, RVBusiness editors conduct extensive analysis during the industry’s three major national shows – America’s Biggest RV Show, Elkhart County’s RV Open House and the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association’s 54th annual National RV Trade Show. Basecamp will be profiled in the ROTV series to a potential audience of 35 million households, airing on January 29.

“We created Basecamp to target the more ‘human-powered’ outdoor adventurer — someone into mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, hiking, snowboarding, and we made sure to pay special attention to providing this customer with everything they want,” said Bryan Melton, general manager of Airstream travel trailers, who was on hand for the TV taping. “The rear hatch allows you to carry this equipment, while it also has all the features of a travel trailer — a bathroom with shower, a cooking area, a whole convertible back end that allows for your gear and also for sitting and sleeping. We’re thrilled that our hard work has paid off and to be recognized by RVBusiness with this award.”

Basecamp, with an MSRP of $35,900, is sized and priced to appeal to a younger buyer at just 16 feet long with a base weight of 2,585 pounds and a 3,500-pound GVWR. It’s towable by a variety of small- and mid-sized SUVs and crossover vehicles.

As Airstream President Bob Wheeler noted, the Basecamp in the final analysis “is a fully-loaded adventure waiting to happen.”

In addition to the recognition of 2017 RV of the Year, Basecamp has also received recognizable national media attention and made Inside Hook’s list of “The 52 Best Products We Covered in 2016,” as well as Gear Patrol’s “GP100” which is the highest honor it bestows on products.
